I am currently going to start a small in-home business selling computers that I build. I have been told technical support will be an important selling point for me. I was told that i could sub-contract out the 24/7 technical support work to a firm who specializes in in-bound technical support help for computers but I do not know who to go to. I need to find a sub-contractor that will be able to give technical support at a reasonable price (seeing as how im an in-home business) for a very small volume of traffic (seeing as how i most likely will only get a few dozen customers a year). |

You can try places like www.Piersontech.com (small) or www.Ingenio.com (large). Or you can practically do it yourself by posting questions at a place like http://forums.techguy.org or www.theofficeexperts.com or www.virtualdr.com. If you are selling to the local community, I don't think 24/7 tech support would need to be outsourced. For problems NOT caused by your computer, you could simply supply your customers with links to places where they CAN get 24/7 tech support. When asked, you can say "Oh, I provide you with information on getting FREE technical support." Nothing's better than free. Let me know, and I'll provide you with a list of all my links. :) Good luck on your venture! |

Where can they get free 24/7 service? Forums dont seem like something people new to computers would like to deal with if they even know that they exist. Im also conflicted as I dont want to sell the computers and offer no support to my customers. Im capable of replying to emails but if they have problems and do not have the internet or are having problems with their internet connections, I dont see how i could help without being directly called. I also dont want to give them a phone number to some site like that geeksquad technical support that charges some $30 per call i think. Anymore suggestions would be greatly appreciated as im dealing with people new to computing (so you gotta revert back to your 'what would i do if i was new to computers' mindset hehe). |

Ingenio (mentioned above) charges by the minute... and you can call by phone. And they get something like their first $5 free. |
