as a new user with pocket pc (IPAQ 4700), i have the following questions:

2. how can you activate and download additional screensavers?
3. Where can I find windows media player 10 and can I upgrade my media player 9?

1) ActiveSync should have options for these.
   Connect your device.
Click the "Options" button on the ActiveSync windows. (Upper right hand side)
In the "Options" window, select "Contacts" and "Inbox". You should
be able to set the settings for these by clicking the "Settings"
button on the right.
Also, in the "Options" window, if you press on the "Rules" tab on
the top portion, you can select how conflicts are resolved, such as
desktop information replaces PDA information.
By the way, my Pocket PC is acting up, so I'm reciting from
memory. I can look into this if it doesn't work out.

2) Pocket Pc does not have or need a screensaver. You don't have to
worry about burning your display.

3) As for updating Media Player, consult this web page:

Hi neutron_coding-ga

1. As far as I noticed you have to decide on all parts of the outlook
if the data synchronized from or to the pocket pc and you can not
decide that one parameter is updated from the pc to the pocket pc and
the other the opposite. HP confirmed it as well, with no solution
beside "look for third party software".
2. I would like to have a screensaver for fun, not since it is essential.
3. From the link it seams that the media player is NOT upgradable from
9 to 10. It involves with ROM upgrade.

It's true that there are no such things as screensavers for pocket
pc's but you can add pictures, animations and even small applications
on your today screen to customize it.

You can view some here...

1) For your ActiveSync problems consult this page:

http://www.slipstick.com/addins/olpda.htm

look under the Pocket Pc heading. There are some custom programs there
for Outlook synchronizations. Quickly glancing at it, I found this:

http://www.sync.com/is_desktop_main.html

2) If you would still like to have a screensaver on you PPC,

go to www.handago.com or www.pocketgear.com or
http://www.download.com/Mobile/2001-2005_4-0.html and type in "screen
saver" in the search box. You should have a lot of choices depending
on your desired price range and program capabilities.

For information, I think the 'screen saver' you may be referring to
(and that comes as standard with the 4700) is a program called
"Dockware". You can run it directly without waiting for it to start
automatically from the Programs group and if you hold down the stylus
on the screen when it is running (to display its menu) you can change
some settings there.
However, I thiknk there are actual screen savers you can get for the
Pocket PC (try Pocket Candy at
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/pocketcandy.shtml) although as
mentioned by previous posters, they're not actually saving your screen
... pretty though ...

Hope this helps, Cheers.
