Is it possible that it has hijacked your hosts file? Located in %WinDir%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC (Where %WinDir% is typically C:\windows) is a file named "hosts" and through editing it, it is possible to have specific named addresses get directed to places other than what they might normally. Many viruses will modify hosts files in order to prevent the user from visiting websites of antivirus providers. Some checking around Mcafee's database of different viruses, it appears that Bagle is some sort of trojan and does in fact modify the hosts file. If you have access to another computer, you can find specific removal instructions on their website. |

Download Spybot Search & Destroy from Tylmail.com Just in case Your Hosts file has been adjusted to block Spybots Website: http://www.safer-networking.org/ (try it first), I have placed a Copy of the Programme at www.tylmail.com (downloaded today from their mirror site) at: http://www.tylmail.com/spybotsd13.zip for You to access. Download and Install this programme (Spybot Search and Destroy) which is capable of dealing with many variants of the bagle virus, also Spybot Search and Destroy allows You to take control of Your Hosts File (selecting and denying access to the Hosts File for particular sites). Spybot Search and Destroy is a FREEWARE Programme with an excellent reputation for dealing with the annoying effects of various Trojans, Spyware and Virus'. As a XP User You should (if not already) take measures to keep XP Updated with all the latest patches. Have You installed SP2, if not do so ASAP and keep upto date regularly. |

Fabrizio, simply there are viruses that attempt to block any removal of themselves. IE: a name of a site that is associated with virus removal programs that are listed in your system will be, to make a long story short (corrupted by the virus) It is trying to protect itself. There are viruses that will shut down your system everytime you click on your virus prog. icon. If you are still having problems at the time of reading this, go to http://www.steves.bz Look for the ASK Steves.bz MAIL text, click on the page ( hold your cursor there, and you will here the Jetson's Doorbell)Click on it & email him with your problem, (he for the most part, will help you get rid of it pro-bono (free) the first time.) Other than having a site, he does not advertise. Was refered to him by my IT manager, He has save my machine more than a couple of times! Good Luck! |
