Hi, this is a tax season question. I started a small business in IL,
Chicago. This is the first year we send out 1099 form. We sent it to
our contractors. However, we need to send IRS copies of the 1099
forms. I just want to know what is the mailing address we shall use to
mail the copies to IRS. We do consulting business.

Howdy affinitylinks-ga,

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the original of the PDF document
below. If you do not have it, you can download it at no cost from the Adobe
web site.
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

From the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Instructions for Form 1099.
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1099.pdf

"You must send Copies A of all paper Forms 1099 ... to the IRS with Form
1096, Annual Summary and Transmittal of U.S. Information Returns.
...
C. Where To File
Send all information returns filed on paper to the following:

If your principal business is located in Illinois ...
Use the following Internal Revenue Service Center address ...

Internal Revenue Service Center
Kansas City, MO 64999

..."

That's right, the IRS has their own zip code (hence no address other than
what is shown above) in several regions of the U.S.

If you have not filled in the 1096 form referenced above, you can get a
printed version of the form by calling 1-800-TAX-FORM (1-800-829-3676).
Be sure to order using the IRS form or publication number. If you can't
wait to get the form from the IRS, then office supply stores such as
Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, etc. usually have the forms for purchase.

It might bear mentioning that the 1096 and 1099 forms were due on February
28th, and as that deadline has passed, there might be late filing fees of
$15 per "information return" if you correctly file within 30 days of the
due date of the return.

If you file electronically, you have until March 31st to file the forms.
You can read up on that (somewhat complicated) process in this IRS PDF
publication.
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p1220.pdf

"Specifications for Filing Forms ... 1099 ... Electronically ..."

If you need any clarification, feel free to ask.
