I am trying to locate the source of the following quote:
"Character lives in a man; reputation outside of him."

I know the author (J.G. Holland), but am trying to identify the
specific source (with page number) in which it was originally
published so that I can cite it properly when speaking on the topic.

Thank you.

I have looked for your answer but I am unsuccessful. If it does
help--I did find out that the full quotation is as follows:

"Reputation and character are widely different things. Character
lives in a man; reputation outside of him." -- JG Holland
