Are you sure it's coming from the speakers? If you turn off your
speakers, does it still make that sound?

I am not positive I will listen to it when I get home tonight. It
seems to me from hearing it that it is internal like a relay clicking
sound but I will turn off the speakers tonight and try it and put the
response back here.
thanks,
Doug

If I may take a wild guess, I would say that it's coming from your
hard drive. Which is not what you want. If you know where your hard
drive is located on the laptop, listen to that area, that should
confirm it.

I have experienced a similar problem with my Inspiron 4000.

If it is that what causes it?

I don't want to jump to conclusions here, but if it is coming from
your hard drive, it probably means that it's failing. I would back up
the hard drive immediately, before a total failure.

I lost my Inspiron hard drive the same way. Click, Scratch, Click
sound for a couple of hours, then flat line, DEAD, taking all my data
with it. And the hard drive that died was a replacement for the
original, because the original was making a whining noise. So, I have
lost 2 IBM Travelstar hard drives in less than 3 years.

I checked the sound again with the sound muted off, it must be coming
from the speakers. I am going to listen for it closely again now.

Well, you got me on this question. Does the clicking have anything to
do with Internet Explorer?
