Question ID: 487168
I have Direct TV (satellite) and Tivo. I want to buy a DVD
Player/Recorder that will allow me to record shows stored on my TIVO
to DVD and then play them later from DVD. I wrote to Direct TV/Tivo
and they said they don't have anything that will do that, but they
sort of implied that they would have something eventually. Are there
products on the market that will do that now? What are they?

I don't want another Tivo system that just records to DVD. There are a
lot of those now. I want something where I can record something I'm
playing on my TV directly to a removable DVD disc and be able to
replay it later from the disc. Sorry, I don't know the correct
terminology to use here. Guess that's why I'm asking the question.

I use a LiteOn LVW-5005 DVD Recorder to record shows off of my Dish
PVR, which is very similar to the Tivo. I was so pleased with its
performance, we bought one for our companies film to DVD transfers.
It's very easy to use and can be programmed just like a VCR. The
thing I liked most about it, though (besides the price - it was
considerably less than other models I looked at) was that it will
record on and 4.7 GB DVD format - DVD+-R/RW, so I can buy whatever
media is the best deal at the time.

The LiteOn recorder I mentioned is exactly what you're looking for -
it's a separate DVD recorder/player. I only mentioned my PVR because
I use it exactly the way that you're wanting to. I just have the
outputs from the PVR going into one of the inputs for the LiteOn
recorder and the outputs from that going to the TV and stereo. Very
easy to set up, very easy to use.
