I'm interested in exporting ice cream from Australia to the USA. The key ingredient cost is Butter Fat(BF) thus my question is: 1.What is the current price per Kg manufacturers pay for BF in the USA and predictions 2. What is the current price per Kg manufacturers pay for BF in Australia and predictions. |

Your question prompted me to do a little thinking, not about butter fat, but about shipping costs. Back-of-the-envelope calculations seem to say that the shipping costs would do serious damage to your margins... adding around 40 cents to the cost of each gallon of ice cream. Cheapest Australia to mainland US shipping rate for this cargo class: $4500 40ft cargo container = 11,850 gals of ice cream (assuming 75% packing efficiency) Of course, this excludes the inland freight costs on both ends, as well as insurance. Must be some damn good ice cream! |
