Is there a site dedicated to the Hawaiian Shotgun program, helicopter door gunners? Were they the first combat troops sent to Vietnam that were not advisers? |

Yes they were the first combat troops sent to Vietnam. They operated secretly from Hawaii's 25th Infantry Division as the Shotgun Program. Shotgun was a covert operation from 1962 until Dec 1965. A Hawaian Senator announced their existance in late 65 to the Honolulu Advertiser. All other in Vietnam were Advisers. Shotgunners were the only authorized combatants.
