Is there a site dedicated to the Hawaiian Shotgun program, helicopter
door gunners? Were they the first combat troops sent to Vietnam that
were not advisers?

Yes they were the first combat troops sent to Vietnam. They operated
secretly from Hawaii's 25th Infantry Division as the Shotgun Program.
Shotgun was a covert operation from 1962 until Dec 1965.  A Hawaian
Senator announced their existance in late 65 to the Honolulu
Advertiser. All other in Vietnam were Advisers.  Shotgunners were the
only authorized combatants.
