I'm doinbg volunteer work for a 501.c-3 non-profit organization that
builds houses for poor people. I am having a dispute with the staff
architect concerning a pea gravel walkway she has ordered installed
along the property edge, on two sides. There is an elementary school
directly across the street, and the gravel walkway is about 8' wide.
There are two significant safety issues with her design decision. The
first is gravel being shot out of lawnmowers and causing injuries,
particularly eye injuries. The second is the gravel is 1/4" mesh
size, so it is the near ideal size to cause slip-fall injuries on the
adjacent sidewalk. Likely injuries are broken arms and if the arms
don't go up quick enough--the kid's arms being full of books, say, are
major facial/dental injuries.
I would like to bring these safety issues to the attention of the
staff architect in the form of graphic pictures of injuries caused by
lawnmowers and gravel, and slip/falls on hard surfaces. I have had no
luck contacting personal injury lawyers in this city for assistance in
them doing any research in their files or in PI-lawyer information
networks. It has been suggested by more than one of them that I get
the information off the web. I am having no luck in getting this
information. I am asking for your assistance in getting these
pictures. With these pictures, I will correct this significant safety
hazard in a prompt and timely manner and will avoid a needless yelling
match with the architect and will more importantly keep her from doing
anything this stupid in the future in her landscaping.
If you have any questions concerning my bonafides, go off to the
11-12-90 issue of either ADWEEK or ADVERTIZING AGE and look at the
page one story on Volvo. I'm the same Dan White.
Thanks--Dan White
