Dear jstenger-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question. Oddly enough not much is available about the
Barnesville-Bradfield Airport but I did manage for find what was out
there and I think answer your questions as best thay can be under the
circumstances:

To answer your immediate questions, the airport was founded in 1969
and didn?t cost the city one thin dime. The property, once owned by
1940?s speedboat racer Gibson Bradfield, was donated in its entirety
to the Village of Barnesville by one of Bradfield?s relatives, John
Bradfield.

Rather than attempt to summarize the history surrounding the creation
of the Barnesville-Bradfield Airport and risk not mentioning some
information that might be quite valuable to you, I am providing a link
to what little published information there is so you can read it first
hand in detail. As you know, in the interest of copyright protection I
cannot cut-and-paste the details here and I think you?d be much better
served if you read it first hand, directly from the sources (I have
included a brief excerpt to show applicability). I think you will find
basically everything you have requested on this official site of the
Barnesville-Bradfield Airport:

?Barnesville-Bradfield Airport came into being in 1969 as a result of
Belmont County being unable to meet the state requirements for a
county airport. Prior to that time it was known as Bradfield Airport
and was privately owned first by the late Gibson Bradfield and later
by the late John Bradfield. One of the leading requirements of the
state for a county airport was the land must be owned by the county.
Evidently Belmont County did not feel it had such land suitable for an
airport. At that time the villages throughout the county were given
the opportunity to receive the state monies if they could meet the
necessary requirements. John Bradfield deeded over his landing strip
to the Village of Barnesville, and Barnesville qualified.?

As a matter of background, the Bradfield men were well known fathers
and founders of the Barnesville community and they apparently come
from a long and highly regarded line of ancestors who also contributed
greatly to the Barnesville community for more than a hundred years.

Thanks for the answer. I guess I should have been more clear on what I
needed. I was hoping to get any info on the field prior to 1969. Is
there info on this available? Thanks

Sorry. I found no online information regarding the property prior to
the donation by the Bradfield family. This is most likley something
that can only be researched by a local historical society in
Barnesville or in Belmont County. You may also find some information
still available in an archive at the county assessors office, but
there is nothing online related to it.
