I am aware that silver is used to treat burns in hospitals and has
other medicinal uses. Every year I order colloidal silver from the
website www.n-ergetics.com to self treat my winter sinusitis. Do you
know of any other natural antibiotic, that is nonprescription, so I
don't build immunity to colloidal silver?

You can build up your immune system with a regular practice of Chinese qigong

I'd certainly be looking for an alternative to colloidal silver. The
rather disturbing, possible side effect of argyria has always put me
off ever trying it, and I'm a firm believer in alternative therapies.

I am very grateful for the input from so many sources.
As an FYI I did extensive searches before taking colloidal silver. I
am very aware of the condition argyria that occurs when taking large
amounts of silver chloride (silver salt), which is not colloidal
silver. The government site, offered as resource, left out one
sentence in their claim that colloidal silver sales are banned. I am
including the entire ruling of September 16th 1999.

In October 1996, the FDA proposed to ban the use of colloidal silver
or silver salts in over-the-counter products. A Final Rule banning
such use was issued on August 17, 1999 and became effective September
16th. The rule applies to any nonprescription colloidal silver or
silver salt product claimed to be effective in preventing or treating
any disease. Silver products can still be sold as "dietary
supplements" provided that no health claims are made for them.

Every major supplement chain nationwide offers colloidal silver. I
purchased from the website mentioned originally because it sold
supplements and gave no ailments that colloidal silver would treat or
cure. I love what colloidal silver does and disapprove greatly that
the pharmaceuticals would like to have all natural remedies, herbs,
mineral, and vitamins unavailable to us.

kindest regards to all that took time to respond!

Once of the best antibiotics since biblical times has been Oregano.
Can be used as an oil or in properly prepared tablets like those at
www.biotics.com

According to an MD I know and a Chiropractor the orgegano is a great
antibiotic that doesn't kill off all of your intestinal flora.

One very common natural antibiotic is garlic. If you're not too
sensitive about using it (for social reasons, I would believe), garlic
tops my search results when I look for "natural antibiotic." Perhaps
you could look for a garlic supplement.

If you cant find any info, you can ask a lady named Wilma Phend. She
owns a healthcare company which has all kinds of stuff like herbs and
natural cures. Some people call it homoepath and such. Anyway, she is
pretty nice and can probably answer your question. I dont know the
answer, as I only made her website for a college course, but her
website is wilmashealthcare.com. , and jsut follow the links to either
'products' or 'shop online' and click "ask wilma". You cant actually
buy anything over the internet from her, but you can ask her stuff and
shell answer you via the email form there. If she has it, Im sure she
could send it through the postal service or something. GL on your
search.

The silver antibiotic used in hospitals is silver sulfadiazine cream,
which is a potent all-around anti-microbial. More than a little of
this anti-microbial action is due to the sulfadiazine part, but some
is also due to the silver. (The mechanism of anti-microbial activity
in silver sulfadiazine is distinct from both silver nitrate and
sulfadiazine salt). Of note is that the minimum concentration of this
drug that you need to kill most bacteria is quite a bit higher than
you would want flowing in your blood stream, therefore it is a cream,
and not a pill.

Indeed, another silver used in the hospital is silver nitrate, which
is sometimes dropped into babies? eyes to prevent trachoma and
gonococcal conjunctivitis (potential causes of blindness). Here, the
anti-microbial effect may be attributable to the silver, but there are
also complications due to the silver, so erythromycin eye drops are
generally preferred. Also silver nitrate is toxic in greater than a
1-2% solution.

A problem with colloid silver ingestion or application of any kind is
going to be argyria. Venders may try to say that their product
doesn?t cause it, but rest assured that with enough exposure, it can
happen with any silver preparation, even the ones the hospital gives
you.

There are some differences in potential concoctions of ?colloid
silver.? The most common being ionic silver made via electrolysis.
Ionic silver will react with chloride in body fluids and form silver
chloride. This is a spontaneous reaction that cannot be stopped, but
can be a potential source of argyria. Other forms of ?colloid
silver? involve a suspension of particles (where most of the silver is
particular) or some mix of ionized and particular silver (where the
composition is about 40/60). (In reality there will always be some
fraction of ionized silver when a solvent like water touches silver
particles). By the way, silver is not specifically an anti-biotic,
but actually an antiseptic. I would be cautious of using any these
colloid silver products.

Oh, and you probably can?t build immunity to silver. Immunity is a
complicated subject, but you will know if you have immunity to silver
if you start breaking out in a rash. This would be essentially an
allergic response. You probably mean either tolerance or resistance,
and you probably won?t develop those either.

As for natural antibiotics, most of the marketed antibiotics are
directly obtained from some bacterium or fungus, so in that sense they
are mostly all ?natural.? Generally, if any detectable effect were
present, the substance would be prescription only.

Qigong is a beautiful tradition, but probably won?t yield any specific
benefit to your immune system that can?t be gained by exercise or
other forms of meditation/mental discipline. Garlic is also great,
but also won?t significantly affect your immune status.

There are a number of medications available for seasonal allergies,
and more than likely, it is your immune system that is responsible,
not the bugs that silver might affect.

Anyway, don?t take any of this as medical advice, and google is
certainly no substitute for your personal physician.
