Heh, inexpensive and DC don't mix. I'm renting a small room with a
shared bath/kitchen for the low low price of $500 per month + $35 for
cable/internet/phone. Ant I did much looking to find this. There are
slightly cheaper places (I've seen as low as $375 + full utilities...
probably $450 total), but they are usually in bad neighborhoods.

Here's a site where the DC paper holds classifieds for room-mates:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/rentals/findarental/?search=3

Some of them say "close to metro" and you could ask if they'd let you
stay for a couple months when you call them. You could get a nifty
$30 air matress at Wal-Mart if it's unfurnished.

The house I'm in now actually has a room available that I bet you
could get in for $535 per month (including all utilities). Nice area
in Maryland, carpeted, cable and DSL in your room, good people as long
as you don't have anything against me or against Brazillians, it's
about 11'x12' I think (slightly larger than my room) and has a
respectable closet. It's a bus ride away from the metro (10 minutes
if the bus is on time and $1.25)... the bus comes every half hour or
so I think and stops 1 block from the house. Let me know if you're
interested, I can make a temporary email address you can write me at
to see if things work out.

Best of luck finding your place!
