mitchell554,

The answer is no, you must be 18 years of age to work near liquor.

At age 18:

..."Any person eighteen years of age or older employed by any permit
holder may handle beer, wine, mixed beverages or spirituous liquor in
sealed containers in connection with wholesale or retail sales, and
any person employed by any permit
holder may handle beer, wine, mixed beverages or spirituous liquor in
sealed containers in connection with manufacturing, storage,
warehousing, placement or delivery, and in open containers in
connection with cleaning tables or handling empty bottles or
glasses..."

At age 19:

..."any person nineteen years of age employed by any permit holder may
participate in any manner in the handling, sale, or delivery of beer,
and when working in the capacity of a waiter or waitress may
participate in the handling, sale or delivery of wine, mixed beverages
or spirituous liquor..."

At age 21:

..."Any person twenty-one years of age employed by any permit holder
may participate in any manner in the handling, sale, or delivery of wine,
mixed beverages, or spirituous liquor..."

Here's the respective rules in the Ohio Alcohol Rules Handbook for
Liquor Establishments.

handling, sale, or delivery of beer, and when working in the capacity of
a waiter or waitress may participate in the handling, sale or delivery of

An additional note. On page 7 is this:

..."Any person employed by a permit holder may handle beer or
intoxicating liquor in sealed containers in connection with
manufacturing, storage, warehousing, placement, stocking, bagging,
loading, or unloading, and may handle beer or intoxicating liquor in
open containers in connection with cleaning tables or handling empty
bottles or glasses..."

If I interpret this correctly, you can bag it, you just can't ring it
up. That's why [high school age] baggers in grocery stores are allowed
to put beer in bags. The cashier though, must be at least 18 to ring
it up.
