My aunt recently died without a will. She is survived by a brother (my
uncle) and 4 nieces, who were her sisters children. I understand under
NY law we are all entitled to inherit, but I was contacted by an
'uncollected funds' co, that says they will do all the legal work for
30%. Is this reasonable and really necessary? Would it be that much
trouble to hire our own lawyer and do this ourselves?

contact the probate court where she past away, on getting attorney it
would depend on her assets, check ny code if there is no will, by
statute the probate court will seperate the funds to the appropriate
people, depends on where you stand on the family tree will decided
what you are entilled to
