Is there a correlation between early exposure to television and autism? What is the rate of autism in societies which do not have television? |

My child suffers from this and has always disliked television. We tried to encourage him to watch (and learn from it) but it failed. He even destroyed a set when he was about 5 or 6. |

I think there's unfortunately a methodological fault in this question, since usually, autism is not always clearly detected in socieities, which have less exposure to the outside world and to modernisation mechanisms, such as television. With other such societies, where TVs might not be found, namely extremely religious ones, it is also possible that autism is not caused by television. Members might suffer from health problems that are related to inadequate treatment or marriages between relatives, which might cause, in turn, autism. |
