I am using my neighbor's wireless network to connect my laptop. my laptop is a brand new Powerbook G4 12inch w/ airport extreme card (802.11g). i need to connect a pretty new Dell P4 desktop that doesnt have a wireless card (and which i cannot add a wireless card to -- it is my work machine, and has a lock on the case) i need to use the desktop to do some realproducer audio streaming (which is only for the PC platform) The question: how do i set up my network settings so that I turn my ethernet port into a live useable port for this second laptop. i am a very experienced computer user, and professional web developer, though i am a little weak in the networking dept. links would be great, and any further instruction would be even better. i know this can be done, as i saw a G4 tower doing this a year ago. thanks, michael |

Open the system prefs..open the 'sharing' folder..on the right hand side you will see a tab for internet..click this. Start Internet Sharing by pressing the button and then select the Share you connection from the Airport connection to and click built in ethernet. Then hook up ethernet cable from laptop to PC.. Look out for the energy saver on your mac laptop..if it goes to sleep you have to restart sharing..so set it not to sleep if possible. |
