I thought someone would haven given you an answer by now, one better
that what occurs to me, but here goes:

The Hayward newspaper (I don't know the name) archive.
Chat with a real estate agent of a larger firm, that will have records.
If you catch him at a slack time (? mid-week morning?) he or she may
be happy to talk, maybe not go to the files, but maybe could suggest
another avenue,
such as looking at recorded deeds (don't know if just anybody can do this),
or at the property tax rolls, which I think you can do. The realtor would know.
Then, of course, you would have to have parcel numbers for two houses
fitting your description. If you could do either of these, you would
have documented info,
but no one house is the same value of another the same size (but maybe
in Hayward there are areas where the houses and their values are
pretty interchangable).
OK? Good luck.
