Hello.
The phrase is "noscitur a sociis" ("know it from its associates").
see:
"The immediately surrounding words of the legislation:
-noscitur a sociis and ejusdem generis "
source: Manitoba Faculty of Law
http://www.umanitoba.ca/faculties/law/Courses/esau/legal_systems/LS-10.html
" noscitur a sociis(Lat)
?Know it from its associates?. The meaning or interpretation of a word
can be gathered from the context or by reference to the meaning of the
words associated with it... cf. ejusdem generis."

search strategy:
"eiusdem generis" unclear
"noscitur a sociis"
