I want a vegan (no animal products) wedding cake with no partially-hydogenated oils made for my wedding in June. But, it is going to be in Gulf Shores, Alabama at the beach, which is not very vegan friendly. I am having trouble finding someone in that area who can do this. Can anyone tell me of a baker in or near Gulf Shores who could make a vegan wedding cake with no hydrogenated oils? |

Howdy rosebuddear-ga, I have sent email to a vegan pastry chef that might have some contacts in Alabama. If another researcher comes up with a source, they will post it for you. Looking Forward, denco-ga - Google Answers Researcher |

There are plenty of egg substitutes, and many cake recipes do not require eggs. Here is a quick search for substitute recipes: http://www.cooks.com/rec/search/0,1-0,egg_substitute,FF.html I wish I could help with the question. I know many restaurant chefs are quite willing to accomodate personal preferences. I wouldn't think it would be difficult to find a baker who could make a vegan cake. |

Thanks for suggestions do far. I have contacted a few bakers so far, but no one seems willing to help right now. It could be because they don't know how to do it and are afraid to try. I am also worried about just asking a baker who has never had experience making a vegan cake to make one for my wedding because it might taste like crap. And, to the first person who was being quite rude, my fiance is vegan, too. I am not going to sacrifice my beliefs. The guests will not be disgusted because #1, vegan cake is yummy, and #2 this wedding cake is just for the wedding party, and the other guests can have sheet cake and other desserts that may not necessarily be vegan. |

I hope you find someone in that area who can help you. I am a cake decorator in Middle Tennessee, who is a vegetarian that loves vegan cake. I haven't had any experience with any caterers or bakeries that have vegan options. I think the best option is to try to find an independant baker/decorator, you might have better luck in that area. Decorators that arent' involved with a commercial bakery are usually supportive of customers need and will accomodate them as well as they can. Some may have had requests for vegan cakes before. I know I have. Good Luck |

Hello-- Should you be unable to find someone locally, may I suggest The Alternative Baker. You can get more information about him, including a link to his web site, at: http://www.hudsonvalleyweddings.com/goods/inserts/altbake.htm Much Good Luck. Judy |

I'm getting married this fall and am having a vegan wedding cake. I'm not even vegetarian, but my fiance is vegan and it's important to him, so there you go. We're using Black China Bakery in Santa Cruz, California (831-457-2068). I never thought a vegan cake could be as good as non-vegan until I tried theirs. They do vegan chocolate, vanilla or carrot cake, and a ton of different vegan frostings. I doubt they can get a cake to you in Alabama, but they're very nice people (it's a family operation) and they might be willing to assist a baker in your area with a recipe or at least some advice. As that first post said, your wedding is a very important day. All the more reason you should stick to your beliefs and have everything the way you want it. Good luck. |
