I am confident that you're thinking of the world-renowned Swedish
composer and conductor Ulf Björlin, who died in 1993.
"Unfortunately, the battle against this disease is familiar, difficult
terrain for [Nadia] Bjorlin. Her father, Swedish maestro Ulf Bjorlin,
Sr. passed away from leukemia in 1993. He was renowned for his
dramatic musical compositions and conducting prowess, holding posts
with the Stockholm Opera, the Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm and
Sweden's National College of Musical Drama. He recorded for EMI and
was known for 'cherishing the artistic and elegant entertainment
inherent in serious forms of music.' Nadia was just 13 when he died."
