What is the preferred networking operating system to provide the
following services for up to 10,000 users?
Email Facilities
Central Server Facilities for users' data files
Internet access via a web proxy-server

FreeBSD
NetBSD
OpenBSD

From commercial OS:
AIX on IBM
Solaris on SUN

Microsoft Exchange 2003 supports up to 150,000 users via SMTP/POP or
IMAP. You could also install NAT for a proxy and create a file share.
Of course, all of this depends on how powerful your server is but the
ROI is better than any 'low-cost' option.
