Question ID: 493896
I recently bought a pioneer vsx d912 home theater receiver and i have
been trying to figure out how to connect all the various inputs /
outputs. I have it mostly figured out, but I can't get the camcorder,
connected via the front input to display video. THe unit is connected
to a panasonic plasma monitor that has both an S-video in and an RCA
video cable in (both on the same input slot). When i connect the
camera i hear audio but no video. Strangely, all other video inputs
to the receiver (ie cable box, DVD) have a corresponding output. BUt
the "video" input at the front does not... I can provide more detail
to anyone who thinks they can help with this problem.

THanks.

Some receivers won't convert video signals from one format to another,
eg from RCA input to S-Video. If your camcorder inputs are RCA and
your TV is connected with S-Video this may be the problem. You would
need to connect the RCA video out on the receiver to the RCA input on
the TV and switch the active input on the TV. Conversely, if you have
S-Video output on the camcorder you could try connecting to an S-video
input on the receiver (although this would not be very convenient if
the front input is RCA).

I have this sort of situation with my receiver, where the DVD player
is component output to the TV, and the VCR is composite RCA. I can't
tape from the DVD player to the VCR through the receiver because it
won't convert the signal.

Yeah, i think this is the problem... actually it's even a bit weirder.
Apparently the receiver favors certain outputs over others. So, if
an svideo output is present, it will use that and ignore any RCA
inputs. So, with BOTH an svideo and rca video output connected, no
video displays when i use the cameras RCA outputs. However, when i
connect the camera using the svideo output, the video works... I guess
the receiver "prefers" the higher quality video signal. Thanks for
