Hi Y'All:

I'm very new to the world of online music, swapping files, buying
music online, etc. and have just got a new computer (Dell Pentium 4,
MS XP, RecordNow) capable of burning CDs. I don't own an iPod or any
"new" type of listening device - and I'm not looking to purchase one
at this time.

What I'd like is some advice from a researcher who has used the type
of services I'm looking for.

What I'm looking to do: I want to go to a single place and pick and
choose my favorite songs, from different artists and genres, and then
be able to easily burn a CD of those songs. I want it to be *legal*,
since I'm a strong believer in copyright laws.

So I'm looking for a track-buying site that meets the following
criteria (listed in order of importance):

* easy to use - i.e., lets me easily write to a local CD.
* has a comprehensive choice of music (not just one label)
* as inexpensive as possible

Please let me know if you need any further clarification. (No, I
haven't picked all the songs yet.)

Thanks.

OK, I tried the Walmart site, and while it seemed to have the ease of
use and decent price, the selection was not there. Of the first three
songs I wanted, they only had one.

So, as a good test of selection, I'd like a site that gives access to
the following four songs:

* Nessun Dorma!, from the Opera Turnadot, sung by Ben Heppner
* Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World, by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole
* More than Words, by Extreme
* Que Sera, Sera, sung by the Holly Cole Trio

The Walmart site only had the last two - which are the "easiest" two to have.

Am I looking for something that doesn't exist?

Thanks.

I downloaded and installed Napster, but I wasn't keen on giving out my
credit card information before I could even see what songs were
available! I'm not looking to use this service often - I just want to
burn one CD's worth of music.

I tried WalMart's online music site and I believe it meets all of your
criteria. It was around $.80-90 per song and they had almost every
song I wanted. It was very easy to burn my selections on to a mix CD.

Have you tried napster? The songs are $.99 a song.

try this-
Download itunes for Windows from the Apple site. Itunes is a very
friendly - FREE - songlibrary software program that is still useful
even if you don't own an Ipod. there are 2 things you can do with
itunes once you have it on your machine- 1) buy songs or albums ffrom
itunes 2) rip songs from your cd's into your itunes library. Once in
your itunes library you shoould be able to burn your own cd's with the
itunes cd burning capability. this experiment is free, fast, and easy
to see if it solves your problem.

Good luck.

I agree with dancingbear that your best bet is itunes. I checked and
the four songs you listed are all available on itunes. Once you
purchase the songs ($.99 each) you can burn them onto a CD through the
itunes software.
