I'm searching for the title and author of a delightful childrens book
that ended with the line "baby bear has had a busy day" and showed a
picture of a bear asleep in bed with a teddy bear under his arm that
also had its eyes shut. The published date was between 1970 - 1985.
Can anyone help me!

There's a "board book" called "Baby Bear Cub's Busy Day."

"The reader, pretending to be a baby teddy bear, learns the pitfalls
of being nosy and talks to Dad on the telephone before going to bed.

A bear cub enjoys being nosy and playing hide-and-seek. These books
provide every opportunity for acting, singing, pinching, biting,
hugging, kissing and tickling. Bedtime was never such fun!"

Does the cover art look familiar?

Hi aysha4144,

Three possibilities -

1) SMALL BEAR'S BUSY DAY (1977)
ADELAIDE HOLL, Illustrated by Leigh Grant
"An expedition into the autumn woods brings Small Bear both adventure
and fun as he encounters honey bees, a capsized raft, and a monster
jack-o-lantern."

2) Can't You Sleep Little Bear (1988)
Waddell, Martin
"Little Bear can't sleep. He is frightened of the dark, even with the
biggest lantern of them all at his bedside. But Big Bear finds an
ingenious way to reassure him. So Big Bear takes him out and shows him
the moon and the stars - and Little Bear then falls asleep."

3) Buzzy Bear's Busy Day (1965)
Marino, Dorothy
"A bear who claims there's nothing to do plays busily after breakfast."

It would be helpful to know if the book you had was a board book
(heavy, thick pages), if the bears wore clothes (like Richard Scarry's
books), if the illustrations were line drawings or more elaborate
illustrations (color or black & white), if you can remember anything
else about the story (what did they do before bedtime) and was it a
house/bedroom setting or forest/cave setting?

Regards,
hummer

Unfortunately the book was none of these suggestions, thanks for the
options! The bears were in a house, the drawings were colour, but
quite simple line drawings. They may have worn clothes, it was not a
natural habitat story. The title is probably not about going to
sleep, this was just the last line in the story. The bear did fun
things all day, maybe went to a park, and it always had its teddy
alongside. I don't remember it being a board book, but it was small,
like a pocket book. It's quite likely out of print, I've searched many
book shops. It's a tough one!
Thanks everyone.
