I am looking for a short list of books written in the last 20 years
that use the term 'shooting stars' or 'shooting star' throughout the
book. The book needs to be non-fiction and scientific in nature.

NOTE to researchers:

I had attempted an answer to this question that did not meet the
customer's needs. It's not enough for "shooting stars" to simply be
in a book's title or subject matter -- the actual phrase "shooting
stars" should be used repeatedly throughout the book.

I hope someone will be able to assist robstown-ga with this query.

Hello Robstown

As I was a little bit curious about your question, I looked up some popular
Astronomy books and Astronomy dictionaries for the term 'Shooting
Star'.In a nutshell 'Shooting Star' is considered a popular term for a
meteor.
Thus a typical astronomy book which covers all aspects of astronomy will
typically say that 'Shooting Star' is a popular term for meteor and
thereafter use the term 'meteor' instead of 'Shooting Star'.
I would therefore believe that one can find many hundreds (if not thousands)
of books which deal with astronomy which will use the term 'Shooting Star'
once (or maybe twice)
Very few scientific books which use the term on lets say more than 5
occasions will be few if any.
A possible ecception to this is a book which would deal with
historical observations of Meteors. Such a book if it quotes
historical observers
may indeed come up with repeated references to 'Shooting Stars'
I personally do not know of such a book but perhaps our researcher friends at
Google Answers can help.
It would also help if Google (or some similiar organisation)has a
database of all text in astronomy books where one can search for
specific terms.
Many Thanks
Mongolia

Amazon.com search scans the contents of many books.

Other than that, wait for the Google Library Project (see
