According to the Rohm and Haas Paint Quality Institute in the article
Color Trends 2005, chocolate brown, bright blue and melon will be
popular in 2005.
Excerpts:
?What do chocolate brown, bright blue, and melon all have in common?
Each is a color that will be gaining in popularity during 2005. As
part of our annual color forecast, the Rohm and Haas Paint Quality
Institute is excited to share paint palette trends that will enliven
your living space, both inside and out.?
??colors such as ocean blue, mango, twilight purple and sunny yellow
make for a fun and beach-like palette. Useful in bedrooms, sunrooms,
kitchens and any area where warmth is required.?
?Continuing in 2005, rich reds, chocolate and sable browns, deep
greens and blues can be used either sparingly on one wall surface or
in combination above or below a chair rail and to visually lower a
high ceiling, often seen in new home construction?
?Brushed metallic surfaces are replacing those shiny brass finishes
used in the past. Soft pewter, mellow copper and brushed nickel are
the perfect complement to today?s kitchen appliances and bath
accessories.?

Peggy Van Allen, Pratt & Lambert Paints Color Specialist says ?For
2005, fashion will be a leading influence in home décor,? ?You?ll see
contrasting colors in combinations like chocolate and aqua, as well as
botanical greens paired with subtle pinks. Consumers are embracing
color in all shades and families; however we have also seen an
emergence of neutral colors to balance the prominence of the bold
colors.?

On interior design:
"In kitchens, bathrooms and elsewhere in the home, colors have grown
bolder in recent years and are on track to stay that way for some
time, says Margaret Walch, the Color Association's Director...
Nature-influenced colors, such as grass green, sky blue and tree-bark
brown, are also forecast, said Christine Chow, an Associate Director
of the Color Association."
The Miami Herald - June 13th 2004
"Intense Hues Here To Stay" by Judith Blake
"Looking toward the future, The Color Association is forecasting
full-spectrum palettes. Although leading color directions will be
cools like watery blues and greens, as well as sensual purples like
lilac and violet, warm oranges, yellows and pinks will continue to be
a popular presence in American design. the important trend really
comes in the area of clarity - no matter the hue, colors in the next
few years will either feel fresh and clean or rich and vibrant. We
have truly crossed the bridge from the smoky, muted color stories
dominating the previous decade..."

Here are the color predictions made by Aimee Desrosiers of
Massachusetts-based California Paints when she spoke at the Maine
Interior Design Association in February 2005:
WATERY BLUES AND GREENS
?Reminiscent of sea glass, these colors are cool and calm, and
considered the next generation of "spa" colors that relax and sooth. A
noticeable trend within this palette is white and creamy walls,
complemented by watery green and blue trim, doors and stairs.?
REDS
?The 2005 Palette is moving from earthy brown tones to a brighter,
cleaner red. With an Asian influence, red is THE accent color of
choice.?
ORANGES
?Homeowners who experimented with spicy brown-oranges are going to
kick it up, choosing a truer "carrot" hue. Fresh and fun, orange is
popular with both genders, and works well with a number of neutrals.
Be on the lookout for new combinations with Dutch blues, browns and
creams. Oranges are showing up on unlikely consumer products already,
like the Honda Element and various washer/dryer combinations.?
SKIN TONES
?Warm tones ranging from blush pinks and warm tans to caramel mochas
will be popular in the home.?

?According to color trend forecasters, one clear trend in colors is
?bold and bright.? Color experts believe fashion and home décor colors
will become increasingly lively, even fun, over the next few years.
This ?bold and bright? trend include dyeing techniques that create
unusual patterns, and retro looks that pull key colors from the
twenties to the sixties.?

Juvenile industry
=================
According to trend predictors, the color palettes for the juvenile
industry in 2005 will reflect retro and classic hues - from the bold
and outrageous to the subdued and calming.
?The three main color families that were listed as prominent in the
children?s market are already being seen in juvenile home furnishings.
They are the Mod look from the 60s, the 80?s Neon Colors, and Not So
Traditional Pastels.?
(. . .)
?The Not So Traditional Pastels continue the metallic trend of Fall
2004 and include soft background neutral colors for girls, and silver
and gold tones for boys. Also coming up are splashes of quartz orange
and sand tones for boys, and shell pink and robin?s egg blue for
girls.?
?Colors to choose from for 2005 include:
dusty apricot
mustard yellow
yellow gold
topaz
camel
sepia
orange
bronze
tobacco
cocoa
ballet pink
rose
dusky pink
coral
berry
garnet
burgundy
old gold
honey
banana cream
burnt ochre
stone
peach
brown
chestnut
wood tones
chocolate
bright pink
sugar pink
hot fuchsia pink
chili red
scarlet pepper
bordeaux
beetroot
Green will be very big this season and luckily there are many shades
to choose from.?
(. . .)
?Designer Show House featured a baby nursery done in white, bright
greens, and fuschia. The room included a skirted crib, topped with a
sheer white canopy. The furniture was hand-painted with a fun mix of
florals, checks, and dots. The hip colors and vibrant patterns,
however, were cooled with white in the flooring, trim, and fabrics.
For nurseries, the trend seems to be going away from a room that baby
will outgrow quickly to creating a room that the baby can grow with.?

Color
?Spring/summer 2005 color sees a distinct move away from nostalgic
references to embrace new ideas. The season plays on the mix of
tranquil harmonies with low-key, calm colors to express quietness.?
?Brighter colors add a personal touch to the neutral atmosphere with
intense verdant and luscious shades, or an array of solar colors
seemingly overexposed to light and sun, making the strongest highlight
statements.?
