I want to know whether a particular book is in copyright in the United
States. The book was published in Germany in 1926. I am aware of the
general rules about the length of US copyright, renewal and etc. By my
understanding, the book almost certainly never had or lost US
copyright, but may have been restored through GATT, if the German
edition is still in copyright.

The author is "Helmut Berve." The title is "Das Alexanderreich, auf
prosopographischer Grundlage."

The book was published in 1926 and 1927 (2 volumes). It was reprinted
by Arno press in New York in 1973.

As stated, please don't answer general info on copyright, or the URL
of the US copyright office.

Thanks. That's interesting. Unfortunately, it doesn't solve the
question by itself. It's possible the © statement solves it, but it
may not either.

Just in case it matters how many years have passed since the author's
death. Helmut Berve died in 1979 (born in 1896):

I suppose you've noticed or know that Olms opened "a branch ... in New
York" (1970):

Somewhere very recently there was a question and answer about
copywrite, and a commenter pointed out that in the European Union
copywrite law has been "unified" as one would say in the States:
protection for the life of the author plus 70 (seventy) years, 80 in
Spain, and in France, 84 yrs and some odd days to compensate for the
years of occupation during WW II.
