Is i.LINK the same thing as Firewire? I have Sony camcorder CDR-TVR330 that comes with a cable that Sony says is to plug in to a computer's i.LINK port. I'm looking at video editing software (Pinnacle Studio Media Suite)that says it can capture video from a device connected to the computer's Firewire port. Can I plug this camera's i.LINK cable into a regular Firewire port and capture video to the software? |

Short answer: go ahead - everything should work OK. Longer answer: Firewire and i.link are both really IEEE 1394. The data signals are the same. Sony's implementation (i.link) does not provide for power from the computer to the peripheral, so it has only 4 pins, not 6. There's a FAQ here: http://www.phatnav.com/wiki/index.php?title=Firewire |

I've done this with a Sony video camera and it worked fine. |
