I am looking for someone to write a program for me. It should be fairly simple. It will need to look in a specified txt file and retrieve values from certain lines in the file, then produce a list. |

Post a link to the list and you might get a post to the answer if it's so easy. |

Are you planning on sending the file to someone and getting back results or do you want to run the program on your computer? If you want someone to write a program that you can run on your computer, you could try a service like this: [ http://rentacoder.com/ ] If you want someone to write you a program, you'll need to let them know what operating system is on your computer (i.e. Windows, Linux, etc.). Will you want the source code for the program so you can later make minor changes to the functionality of the program, or is a program that you can only run "as is" acceptable? Will the operation of the program be exactly the same each time or will it be slightly different each time you use it? If so, how? If you are only going to run the process once, you might not need a program but rather, as suggested, simply put the file on the web where others can get a copy of it and ask someone to help you extract the information you need. If extracting the values is fairly simple, someone will probably help you out of kindness. If the task is fairly simple and you ask for advice on how you could do it yourself with Excel, Access, VB, Java, or other software, you'll probably get a bit of assistance that way as well. |

This is a rather simple task. I've done it multiple times. I like using awk to do it, and it can be rather fast. -- This is a free comment. |

Yes easy enough to do. You will need to specify the operating system though, e.g. Windows, Linux, UNIX, etc. Do you want the user to specify the lines to extract? Let me know and I'll code it for you, I will need a copy of the text file. You can contact me through :- http://www.scp-computers.co.uk |
