Good Day Can non-eu residents who are working in the UK visit the Irish Republic as tourists without applying for a Visa? If they visit the Irish Republic either by flying direct from the UK to the Irish Republic without applying for a visa (or by going to Belfast and travelling overland to the Irish Republic)what are the consequences if they are 'Caught'? Will the authorities in the Irish Republic really care? Or will they get a 'Slap on the wrist' and told not to do it again? Or could the consequences be more severe? Many Thanks DPRK007 |

Dear dprk007-ga: I assume from your username that you are Korean. According to this web site, South Koreans do not need a visa to visit Ireland but North Koreans do. OASIS http://www.oasis.gov.ie/moving_country/passports_and_visas/student_visas.html Does this answer your question? tutuzdad-ga |

tutuzdad I am afraid I have to disappoint you to tell you I am not Korean (either North or South... Grin). I also do not believe there are huge numbers of North Koreans wishing to visit Ireland at the moment :-) The actual intent of my question was to obtain some information about the legality of individuals who are resident in the UK who visit the Republic of Ireland without obtaining a visa. You may or may not be aware that the has alwys been free movement of people between UK and the Irish Republic. My question has a practical purpose in that individuals (usually from India) I have known ask me if they really require a visa to visit the Republic of Ireland. When I looked at your web site, India is one of the countries which is not on the list. Indians would normally therefore require a visa to visit the Republic of Ireland. There are many thousands of Indians legally resident in the UK. I am curious to know if they can legally travel to the Republic of Ireland without obtaining a visa. Someone in this situation can quite legally go Northern Ireland. They can then cross into the Republic of Ireland and their Passport will not be checked at the border between north and south. There would also be a similiar issue going the other way. An indian resident in the Republic of Ireland could visit the UK simply by going into Northern Ireland and then taking a boat or plane to mainland Britain. They could get away withn this without applying for a UK visa. My question is , Is this legal? Many Thanks DPRK007 PS many people who use this service leave fairly obvious clues as to what their background is. Perhaps you can do a search on their Alias. |
