I have been leasing a dedicated server from a hosting company for 18
months. The first twelve months were under contract. Recently they
have begun pressing me to renew. My feelings are that as long as they
continue delivering good service, I will stay with them. How is it to
my advantage to sign for twelve months as opposed to continuing
month-to-month?

Thanks in advance...

Who is the provider? They may offer a discount for long-term commitments.

I struggled with the same question with my provider, BlackMesh Managed
Hosting http://www.blackmesh.com . I did renew after 12 months because
they offered a 10% price break if I did.

When some hosting companies ask you to renew, they are trying to lock
you in as a customer however if you are leasing an unmanaged server at
a discount provider, there is no reason to. The hosting market has
pretty much taken away long term contracts for anything of this
nature.
