Sucrose + oxygen ----Carbon dioxide + water is highly exothermic.
Explain why 1)sugar shows no reaction under normal conditions (eg in a
sugar bowl)       2) it burns rapidly when ignited , 3) when eaten it
oxidisesin the body

1) There is a relatively high activation energy
2) The ignition source supplies the necessary activation energy
3) The process is enzymatic
