I have a Dell Dimension L667r personal computer. When I try to open
Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or any other internet
applications, I get a warning that says "This program has performed an
illegal operation and will be shut down" I click on "details" button,
and it elaborates that "Internet Explorer caused an invalid page fault
in module <unknown> at 000:8173edc4." It then lists a number of
"registers.

As a possible workaround, tell me if this works:

Right click the desktop icon for either IE or Firefox and select OPEN.

Uninstall Internet Explorer and reinstall it.

The error is a corrupt file in the installation files.

If you are using Windows 98 OS, the Illegal operation error usually
indicates that you have a virus. I suggest to get your drive scanned.

Do you have "Aventail Connect" installed?

This is discussed here:
