Hello Blucken-ga,

Whatever search I did, all the results ultimately remitted to the
consulting and market research company Frost & Sullivan
(http://www.frost.com/ ), particularly two reports: ?US & Canada
Membrane Bioreactor Markets?, published in 23 Jun 2004, priced $3,950
(http://www.ti.frost.com/prod/servlet/report-brochure.pag?id=A658-01-00-00-00
); and ?European Membrane Bioreactor Market?, priced $6,250. However,
by reading other sources quoting these reports, their own brochures or
abstracts, and other F&S online articles, I think that the three first
issues of your question have been covered, while other websites helped
for the last one.

1. How big is the Membrane Bioreactor Market?

>>US and Canada:
?Three recently published analyses from Frost & Sullivan
(http://www.environment.frost.com), titled U.S. Desalination Plant
Market, U.S. and Canada Membrane Bioreactor Market, and U.S. Advanced
Water Treatment Equipment Market reveals that revenue from
membrane-based water purification, desalination and waste treatment
totaled over $750 million in 2003, and is projected to reach $1.3
billion in 2010.?

?Increased Water Scarcity and Stringent Water Quality Legislation Fuel
the Expansion of Membrane-Based Water Treatment Market?, October 27,
2004 (http://www.waterindustry.org/Water-Facts/frost-sullivan-3.htm ).

>>Europe:
?The size of this market has been estimated by Frost & Sullivan to be
around ?32.8 million (about $42.9 million) in 2002 (...)?

2. Who are the key suppliers of Membrane Bioreactors?

US and Canada:
?Zenon Environmental, Kubota (through its licensees),
Ionics/Mitsubishi Rayon, U.S. Filter, Aqua-Aerobics/Pall Corporation,
and Norit X-flow.?

>>Europe: ?Zenon of Canada, Wehrle Werk and Huber of Germany, Aquator
of the UK, Kubota of Japan, Norit X-Flow of the Netherlands, VA Tech
of Austria and Ondeo and Veolia Environnement of France.?

3. What markets are they being used for?

>>US and Canada:
Wastewater treatment plants (sector?s growth). Industries,
communities, and agricultural end users.

>>Europe:
Industrial and municipal users: ?Growth in the total market is good at
present and since a market value of ?25.3 million in 1999 has grown to
reach a value of ?32.8 million in 2002. This growth is due to a
steadily increasing number of contracts for both industrial and
municipal users.? (...) ?Frost & Sullivan expect the majority of
plants to be largely built for small communities and for industrial
works(...)?

4. What is the typical cost for a system and how much waste can it treat?

In the ?Preliminary Engineering Report; Bear Lake-Pleasanton Area
Utilities Authority; Manistee County, Michigan; Wastewater Collection
and Treatment System; February, 2004?
(http://www.bearlakemichigan.com/seweradd1.pdf ), an MBR alternative
is considered (alternative 6) and budgeted. The foreseen flow would be
95,000 gpd. The treatment plant construction cost would be $1,850,800.
The total estimated project cost is $2,490,000; see details in table
38.

The ?World?s Largest Membrane Bioreactor? to be provided by ZENON
Environmental Inc. to King County in the State of Washington ?a
ZeeWeed MBR model- ?will treat an average day flow of approximately
144,000 cubic metres of municipal sewage or 38 million gallons per day
(mgd) with peak flows up to 204,000 cubic metres or 54 mgd, serving
over 100,000 households. In addition, the company received an order
for a second smaller plant, which results in a total order value to
ZENON of $30 million.?
