Hi!

I'm on my way to start as an electric guitars builder (luthier) here in
France. I hope to sell some of my guitars in other countries in
Europe, and maybe in the USA via my website.

I'm looking for a "catchy" and yet simple brand name, who could
evocate fine craftmanship, quality and seriousness, as well as
modernity. In short, a simple name which sounds good and can be easily
pronounced by English speakers.

As my name is "Marchand" (very common name in France), the obvious
choice is "Marchand Guitars", or "Marchand Custom Guitars", but it
feels weird for me firstly :), and I don't know if this word fills the
requisites I explained above..?

Could you provide me some ideas (or just a really good one ;),
preferably using my name / firstname or anagrams ?

I did a previous research with anagrams and couldn't come with something
good :( Here's the letters of my first name: aeelmmnu in case it's
useful.

PS: comments are welcome!

www.larrivee.com is a French name and he sells his guitars to the
English world using it.In Canada Marchand is a common last name for
both English and French speakers so no English speaking person would
have trouble pronouncing it.Top guitar makers (Fender and Gibson are
two)often use their last name as a brand name.To many people French
sounds classy and artsy.

Thanks for you comment mister2u! I think it feels weird for everybody
to use their own name on a product, especially in my case as Marchand
is a noun in French (which means "Salesman") so it's not exceptionnal
here ;-)

That's why I want advices from English people, so if you think that's
ok I'll go on this easy way.

Any other comments anybody ?

Marchand sounds good to me as an English speaker. When you explained
the meaing, I then recognized it too (no school French, just what
words I've picked up), but I don't think that would be a problem at
all, and it is a nice sounding name, appropriate for a musical
instrument.
If there is not a law against using the name of the country commerially,
what about "The French E-Guitar" as a second line

             Marchand Custom Guitars
The French E-Guitar (or does E-Guitar suggest a tuning?)

If you are difident about using your own name, I guess you might find that just
too self-promoting, but others - potential customers - would think
yours must be the best.
Get a trade market on it (assuming one can).

Thanks for your comments!

I'll go for Marchand so.. and when you'll see my guitars you'll say
you have been advisors for the choice of the name :)
