Hi,
I have a Jaguar XK8 1999 but the Trunk lid does not open when I press
the dash button to open it. It makes a sound but it does not open. Its
as if the solenoid that unlatches the mechanism is not kicking in. How
do I open it manually or otherwise.

When I press the trunk unlock switch on the dash the system flashes
(Valet mode) so how do I get it out of Vatel mode, I've tried just
pressing the valet button but that does not do anything. Secondly my
trunk does not have a manual unlocking mechanism, is that normal? I
thought that the keyhole on the trunk is where the XK8 stickers are?

I would say eaither it is the wire a fuse or the locking mechanism is out.

after those two questions, maybe you will appreciate the true story
about a man I met in Sydney.  Funny, I noticed, he has the reading
area of his bifocals at the top instead of the lower area of the
lenses.  "Yes, he said, I spend so much time under my Jag, that I need
these glasses.

To unlock the trunk manually, look at the xk8 badge on the rear right.
In between the X and the K letters is a keyhole for inserting your key
to open the trunk (when all else fails).

Thank you for your help, however the trunk does not have a keyhole
between the letters, the keyholefor some reason has dissapeared or
been removed and plastered over for some reason.
