A co-worker of mine, David, discovered last week that a mouse had
gotten in his car, a 1991 Mazda 626, and he was unable to trap him for
a few days.  The mouse somehow got inside his dash and has since died.
 The smell is almost unbearable and David has not been able to find
anyone that can successfully find the dead mouse behind the dash.  His
mechanic did not find the mouse in the fan blower motor and now the
only other alternative he knows of is to take his dash out which is
very time consuming and will be expensive.  He has already spent
$90.00 and still has the dead mouse and the smell in his car.  Is
there a "trick of the trade" way to find and get rid of this dead
mouse and/or the horrible odor without it costing him very much, if
any, money? Thank you for helping me!

Well if he payed some guy to find and remove the mouse and the guy did
not find it, I would not pay. Anyways what he could do is remove his
dash board and go through it.

Seriously, won't the stench stop when the beastie has dried out?
Park in the sun, or maybe try to aim a hairdryer behind the dashboard
to speed things up.  Just a thought

Is it really dead?

It may just be in need of a bath.

I would put a tempting bowl of water in the car; load it with scented
bath foam; surround it with candles; spin Handel's 'Water Music' on
the CD player; lay out a nice bath towel and deodorant ... and see
what happens.

You could be pleasantly surprised and get a loving companion in the bargain.

you should go to a car part place or a place like auto zone they sell
a can of spray that you can put into your car and you turn on your
engine and let ac on and release the can and shut the doors andit will
get of the smell and any other smell in the car then let the car air
out for about a half hour to a full one

All you need to do is spray or fog the affected area with a mal-odor
neutralizer (which can be bought at any janitorial supply store).
Basically the fog is a way to transport the odor neutralizer to all
areas of the ventilation system. I would place the odor neutralizer in
front of the intake vents of the car where the air goes into the
system

Remember that the odor will go away eventually. As soon as the carcass
dries out the odor will cease. Of course the larger the animal the
longer it takes.  Of course, if you can remove the dashboard and find
the dead mouse then the odor will go away even faster. But that can be
very expensive. Good Luck
