We would like to use a certain name in selling our merchandise
(shirts, motorbike accessories), and we will be exporting the products
to america and shipping them w/i the U.S.....so - what are the steps
to registering a name in America? Is it done at the federal level, or
can it be done legally w/i a state (for all 51 states distribution).

It's not clear from your question -- Do you want to register a
trademark for the name of your products?  Or do you want to formally
establish a company in the US by, e.g., setting up a corporation?

These are two very different processes.
