I am looking for statistics about limited English proficient (LEP) patients in the U.S. healthcare system. Specifically, I would like to know the following: 1. the percentage of inpatients in hospitals and clinics that are LEP. 2. the average number of days an LEP inpatient spends at the hospital. (If there is a study that indicates that LEP patients spend more time in the hospital than the average English-speaking patient, I would also like a reference to that study.) 3. the number of healthcare providers, including nurses and doctors, that are bilingual Items number 1 and 2 are the most important, but specific information about LEP patients is key. I am not interested in statistics about users of the healthcare system in general. I would only like to see information with a focus on LEP patients. I know already the percentage of LEP individuals in the United States. I also know the average number of days for short-stay hospital utilization (by all patients) in the United States (4.4). |
