my service provider is sprint pcs. i used their cell phone insurance plan provided by a third party called lockline. i broke two different phones within a year time period and got replacements after paying a $50 deductible. after i broke the second phone, lockline said that their policy is to cancel any policy that has two claims for replacements within a year time period. so, i'm out of insurance now and i just bought a palm treo 650 worth about $500-$600 retail and i don't want to carry it around uninsured. i've been searching on google for a third party insurance provider that will insure cell phones for a monthly fee but have had no luck. can someone out there find some insurance companies for me that will insure cell phones where i have to pay a premium and can even change the deductible? i will initially set the price for $2.00 but will tip the answerer $.50-$1.00 for every VALID insurance provider that will insure my cell phone as stated above depending on how good of "a find" it is. thank you. |

Try calling the company you get your homeowner's insurance through and ask about "personal property" coverage or add ons, such as this service from allstate: http://home-insurance.allstate.com/scheduled-personal-property-coverage.aspx (first link found for example, I don't know if allstate sucks or is good) I don't know how often this works out to being a good deal, but I have heard many people say they use that kind of insurance to cover their phone. If you trust a company to replace a house, surely they are good enough for a phone. |

I'm an insurance agent, and the person above hit the nail on the head. Add your phone to your homeowner's (or your parents homeowner's if you don't have one), and the cost will be minimal. Don't lose your phone in the future. |

Hello, If you don?t want to deal with adding your phone to your homeowners policy then you do have an alternative ? www.safeware.com for a $800 cover you have to pay about $54 annually, which amounts to about $4.50 per month. I use this company to insure my laptop but haven?t ever filed a claim, so don?t know recovery details. From what I have heard it?s a reputable company and has been on the news a couple of times. I even read an article where the company was approached for theft/loss related information, so it must have a certain level of authority when it comes to insurance against theft/loss. You can also try www.trackitback.com/ ? they assist in the recovery process incase your phone is ever lost or stole, unfortunately they do not reimburse you if your phone is unrecoverable. Nonetheless, it?s a cheap addition which provided a slightly higher level of security. |

Here's the catch. I'd add it to my homeowners policy but wouldn't make a claim for it if it was the only thing lost or stolen. If you claim a loss of $600 or $650 alone, as a homeowner's claim, you'll more than likely see an increased rate, lose some type of claim free discount, or worse get cancelled. I'd look at the safeware.com site and if in fact you do add it to homeowners, don't file the claim standalone. |
