will108,

Yahoo Japan has by far the most users in Japan...but this is mainly
due to the popularity of the vast array of portal tools offered, from
auction services to train schedules to weather forecasts, to movie
reservations, and such. However, if you limit the scope to actual
searching, then the combined searches from Japan using Google and
Google Japan are more than double that of Yahoo, their closest
competitor. MSN search is gaining users as well.

There are a lot of other search engines in Japan (Excite, Lycos, Goo,
Biglobe, etc.), but just as in America, the "three kings" of Google,
Yahoo, and MSN garner the vast majority of Japanese search queries.
