One day, my MSIE search-shortcuts just stopped working. These are the items you can enter in your registry under the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl\ For example, to create a Google search for the shortcut "g", you would use: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl\g] @="://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=lang_e&q=%s"] These have worked fine for several years. Then today, out of nowhere, I went to use them and they no longer work. I've re-entered in my registry, verified their existance there, but nothing. Does anyone know of any settings/dependencies for these to work? Thank you in advance! |

Have you installed any New Spyware blocking software (i.e. Spybot, Ad-aware Spy Sweeper) If so, these could be causing your troubles. Good Luck. |

Nothing changed in my system configuration or I would have gone directly for that. It appears related to the specific user configuration because I can create/access them under a new account profile; however, I can't determine what it is about an account profile that is causing the problem. It doesn't make any sense because the entries are in the registry (the removal of which is how an anti-spyware tool would eliminate the functionality). MSIE just quit using the information, despite it existing as it always has. A similar thing happened on one of my other PC's, which causes me to wonder if it's a new adware/redirector going around, although no virus/spyware tool finds anything on my system. Regarding the other poster's comments -- I could stop using a PC althoughter and I'm sure that would fix my problem as well; however, I'm looking for a solution to my specific problem: why the shortcut links have stopped working in *MSIE*. Thank you! |
