I am having trouble understanding how white patina forms on silica
based rocks, especially flint~cherts~agates. This is usually from high
calcium/lime soils but I dont just cant find out if this frosting
effect is a bleeching of the stone or if its absorbing an element to
make it white and why it actually happens.

Thanks for your time,

Ben
