I am running WE98SE and hitherto pressing the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys has
produced a list of tasks that are running, as a prelude to 'End Task'
or 'Shut Down'. But no more!

I have no reason to believe that the keyboard or the computer are
otherwise not behaving.

Any great ideas?

Hi, Guys

Many thanks for your comments.

I will now try another Keyboard and the other Alt & Ctrl keys.

The Task Manager doesn't seem to open at all.

I'll get back after I've tried the stuff.

Wow, YES thanks.

The other Alt & Ctrl keys DO WORK!

Now ... for your next trick ...

Would one of you please post an answer?

NO excuses, please!

I am quite confident that if anyone can beat the system, it's you two!

Off you go!

New keyboard in place and everything great again.

EXCEPT no answer!

Please don't tell me that this is beyond BOTH of you!

Many thanks again,

All the Best

Bryan

Thanks, Jerry, I'll put the old keyboard in the dishwasher, as suggested.

It's interesting that, according to Kemlo, Macintosh use a keyboard
that never fails.

Bad move!

Smart manufacturers always build in something to go wrong.

I notice that, according to the box, the keyboard that I am using now
has a 3 Year Warranty!

I also notice that there's no address provided to claim under the warranty.

My thanks to one and all ...

And I have taken due note of Shakespeare who proclaimed ...

hrmmmm, so you can do everything else ok?
Do the buttons on the keyboard (ctrl alt and delte) work ok otherwise?
Have you tried pressing the other ctrl and alt keys (alt gr works just fine)?

Lastly..and this is a longshot, does the task manager open and then
close very quickly, almost too quickly too notice. If you think this
is happening you probably have some sort of virus..

I agree with Kudeta

- either you have coffee (or gin) in the Keyboard
(in which case, nip out, buy another and leave your current KB
upside down in the bath with lashings of Persil - then upside down on
a radiator)
- It is smart to have a reserve KB

- or you have a Virus that is pretending that you have a Screensaver
running, when you do not.

Good to hear that it was just a keyboard fault.

You could try putting the old one in the dishwasher
- I've not done that yet, but friends have
- you have little to lose

Just pleased that you do not seem to have a virus

Windows 98 SE2 had a problem when shutting down, are you using your PC
on a network? If not, do you have a network card installed? If so, try
disabling the network card and reboot the PC, do you still get the
same problem? If this does not solve if, the is a switch you can use
to close windows 98 quickly

Yes. Get a mac.
And then you and kemlo and the other 3 mac users can play games together.

ROFL!!
