We are in need of the following equipment: static or rotary single-phase to three-phase converter. Rotary converter is preferred. The input voltage (single-phase) is between 110-120 VAC (typical house/office/shop value). The output voltage (three-phase) is between 110-120 VAC (L-N), depending on the input voltage. The output connection must be wye (Y) such that a line-neutral connection between any of the phases (i.e.: A-N, B-N, and C-N) provides 110-120 VAC. Of course, the output would be phase-shifted so that the three phases are 120-degrees apart from each other. Two wires in ... four wires out. After doing much searching, the only units consisted of 220-240 VAC inputs, which means that a step-up transformer would have to be installed between the wall source and the converter (1:2). And a set of three (3) step-down transformers would need to be installed after the three-phase conversion has taken place. This type of configuration entails too many equipment pieces and would overtake the limited space availability for installation. The unit must be mountable on a vertical structure, with provisions for (safe) connections such as conduit runs to the unit (with the connections made internally in the unit). The dimensions of the unit must not be overwhelming (1'x1'x1' would be an acceptable maximum). Can you please provide me with manufacturer website with this type of product? Some non-suitable products were found at: http://www.kayind.com/index.htm http://www.phase-a-matic.com/index.html Thanks. |

Hello Ckashrafi, I have a few found a few manufacturers that should be able to handle your needs. Most likely this will be a custom order or adaptation of an existing product. The site I kept getting referred to from several other sites is a company in the United Kingdom (England, Wales). The page at http://www.isomatic.co.uk/3phConverter.htm describes the use of converters in general and near the bottom the section labeled "Options" indicates that single phase 110V input is available through use of a "booster". I found under "frequency conversion", a company named Georator Corporation located in Manassas Virginia that produces a variety of products. The page http://www.georator.com/design.htm allows you to design your own solution. You should be able to choose 110V single phase input at 60HZ and three phase output to get a device to meet your needs. You could also call 1-800-523-9938 to get connected to their application engineering group. International Computer Power in Industry California, has a product named Ultra Phase (http://www.rotoups.com/products/ultra1.shtml) which claims to be factory configured for any input (and output) voltage and frequency. From the picture, the unit may be too large for your use and I am pretty sure it does not use rotary conversion (from the description). I suggest contacting the manufacturer to be sure. If you need additional suppliers I would expect a number of companies would be willing to "design your own solution". A search phrase such as +custom phase conversion provides a list of companies such as... http://www.virtualtechnologiesltd.com/Power_Supplies/alt_energy_power.htm http://www.willett.ca/product.htm http://www.tdipower.com/acp/prod.htm and others. The other suggestion I will make is to consider if your design could be changed to use 208V (or 230V) three phase power. Many more companies had products that appeared to provide that kind of power and the overall cost of your product may be less than with a custom power converter. Please let me know if this answer doesn't meet your needs and I will dig in a little more to clarify the answer. --Maniac |
