Can the Hubble Space Telescope take pictures of the moon's surface?
and if so, how close could we get to the surface as far as detail is concerned??
also could it capture images from "the Dark Side"? (0 lux photography capable?)

seems to me if the hubble can see billions of light years away, it
could surely capture a glimpse of some of the @ 170,000 kg of junk we
left up there over the years...a buggy comes to mind...its gotta still
be there ...right?!?

"Why not use the Hubble space telescope to take photos of the Apollo
landing sites? Hubble did photograph the Moon, in 1999.

'Anything left on the Moon cannot be resolved in any Hubble image,'
According to the Space Telescope Science Institute, which operates
Hubble for NASA. 'It would just appear as a dot'."

Here are some of the Hubble photos of the Moon:

Incidentally, the Moon has no permanent "dark side." The term "dark
side" just refers to the part of the Moon that is not visible from
earth at any given time.

Spacecraft to check out Apollo Moon sites
A European spacecraft now orbiting the Moon could turn out to be a
time machine of sorts as it photographs old landing sites of Soviet
robotic probes and the areas where American Apollo crews set down and
explored.

The Lunar Orbiter probes were able to photograph the shadows of the Surveyor
spacecraft while they were on the moon. The Apollo expeditions would have
left more obvious "footprints". I would therefore think that the SMART probe
would have had no problem photographing the Apollo sites.
