Malissa,

I'd venture to say it would be near impossible to disable it for sixty
days. Since this is federal funds system, it most likely has:
1. Offsite Hot Backups
2. Redundant Off Site Hot Backups
3. Full Backups done everyday.
4. Abitlity to recover in hours, not days.

So, if it did happen or could happen, I suggest that a restore would
be in order, and quite fast.

I'm assuming you mean the computers at the Fed that keep track of
memeber banks' reserves on account with the Fed.

As already mentioned, there are probably ample backups, so there's
minimal chance of permanent data loss regarding banks' current (as of
last backup) reserve positions.

If ongoing computer operations were disrupted, the biggest consequence
would be major delays in check clearing. Since the Fed's computers
take care of netting (the process of "ignoring" offsetting
transactions between banks) as well as settling reserve account
changes (after netting), any computer problems would affect check
clearing (also wire transfers).

Addiotionally, there is no "one" system network to bring down. It's a
conglomerate of government and private systems.
