To whom it may concern: My question for you is concerning Eva Hesse, the female minimalist. Here is a list of questions that I am particularily interested about her: -how Eva Hesse struggled and overcame the obstacles which alienate women from the realm of Minimalism? -what is the associations between female gender and Minimalism a) through Hesse? uses of materials; b) through Hesse? ?inward? approach and her use of body metaphors; and c) her method of construction, especially in reference to her male counterparts---Pollock?s ?drip? painting and Robert Morris?s ?Anti form?? -How does she surmount contemporaneous social taboos against women departing from her domestic sphere? -How she maintained her dual identity as a woman and an artist? -How she maintained a more frank and inventive relation to the history of sculpture than her male counterparts? -How does she translated Pollock? painterly skeins into highly evocative sculpture? -Why is Hesse considered as an ?inward artist?? -How does the biological associations of Hesse?s work relate to her emphasis on the literal nature of materials? -How does her use of traditional and nontraditional media reflect her views and comments of specific gender? |
