What is the name of this text adventure game that I played in the
1980's? A $10 tip if you can also find a copy of the game for me.

I can say for certain that the game was not part of the Zork series
and it was not the Colossal Cave adventure. I believe it might have
been called something like Treasure Adventure but I could be wrong.
The game was fairly descriptive and detailed and I remember fragments
from the game as below...

(1) You start in or nearby a log cabin. In the log cabin I think you
can get a magic lamp. I think there was a trapdoor in the floor going
to a tunnel or cavern. There was a forest outside.

(2) Creatures can follow you around. One of them was a tiny jade
dragon or something like that. Sometimes the dragon would stop
following and sometimes I think it would attack you after a while.

(3) Fairly deep into the game there is a region where descriptions
change from English to French. While you're there you even have to
type commands in French - "nord" to go north, "sud" to go south etc!

(4) There is a western area to the game where you can get locked in a
jail by a sheriff or deputy. I think you can escape from it though.

(5) There is a jungle region and I remember a specific description
that says your heart almost skips a beat when a poisonous snake goes
by you.

As far as I can recall you couldn't save or restore. I think the
object was to collect treasure and there was a scoring system in the
game. If I can remember anything else I'll add it to this question.

penonpaper - unfortunately I don't know which year it came out. I
think I was playing it in the mid 1980s.

marcboon - thanks for your comment. It might have been called
"Adventure" but the one I played was on an early IBM clone PC. Maybe
you are referring to the Colossal Cave game which is also known as
"Adventure"? Do you specifically remember some of the scenes I
mentioned?

No - it's not the Adventure / Colossal Cave game by Will Crowther. I
assume it came out later than that because it was slightly more
advanced.

stolis - it was definitely one game, not a collection.

I remember another game I had at the time. It was another text based
game where you moved north, south, east and west around a simple
grid-like map. There were walls, pits (signified by a draught coming
from a certain direction) and a creature that you were hunting or
being hunted by.

jumpingjoe - I couldn't say for sure about the attic/loft. Maybe. Do
you remember anything else about the game?

Do you remember about what year in the 80s you played it or it came out?

It was simply called 'Adventure'.
At least that was the one I was playing at the time (1980). It was
written in BASIC, and I ran it on my diskless pre-AppleII DAI
computer, using audio cassettes for program storage, and a big color
TV (with tubes!) as a display. Another favourite was 'Lisa', a virtual
shrink, who's opening line was always: 'Hi, I am Lisa, please state
your problem'.

Sounds to me like maybe you may be referring to multiple games from
the Scott Adams collection. Mainly Adventureland and Ghost Town. Did
you maybe have a collection of games on one disk?

Read here about the collection:

Say, did you actually start from an attic or loft, and got transported
to the log cabin. Was there any flotsam and jetsam? This is ringing
bells.

Just wanted to add: The "flotsam and jetsam" game was probably
Treasure Island, one of my favorites growing up. For info on getting
this and similar games for free, including old Infocom games and Scott
Adams games, or instructions on making your own, see my article:
